Guide to Selling

We have been holding regular Fine Art, Antiques and Collectables auctions at our Southsea Salerooms, 7 Clarendon Road for over 50 years and remain the leading antiques auctioneers in Portsmouth. As auctioneers, we aim to sell on your behalf your items at auction for the best possible prices.

Submitting items for sale

If you have any item you would like to sell please initially email pictures to auctions@nesbits.co.uk and we will respond to you in due course.

Suitable items for auction would then be listed on our entry receipt form, along with price guides and a reserve price if appropriate. A reserve is a minimum price at which the item will be sold (subject to a 10% discretion) and cannot be higher than the lower end of the estimate.  The seller will retain a copy of the entry receipt form as this gives details of our conditions of sale and charges.

All items need to be in the salerooms by the entry deadline, or preferably earlier. This is usually 10 days prior to each sale day and enables us to process, catalogue and display the items for public viewing.

If carriage is required for larger items such as furniture, we are able to arrange collection and delivery with local carriers. The cost of this can either be deducted from the proceeds of sale or paid directly by the seller to the carrier. We can also arrange full house clearances if required.

Marketing

All our auctions are advertised in the local press, specialist publications, nationally in the Antiques Trade Gazette, the weekly journal of the antiques industry and online at www.the-saleroom.com.  In addition, we personally contact potential specialist collectors and dealers worldwide.

Viewing days for trade buyers and public are held prior to the sale day and are always busy and well attended.

Online Catalogue

In addition to the printed catalogue, our sales are available to be viewed on our website, easyliveauction.com and also on the Antiques Trade Gazette website, the-saleroom.com

This provides world-wide marketing exposure for all the sale items. We receive requests from potential buyers from all over the world. Potential buyers are able to request further details about items in our sales and if unable to attend a sale in person can leave a commission bid with the auctioneer or arrange to bid during the sale by telephone.
