Some Auction News
We are pleased to welcome Mark Wingham to our team who will be our resident postcard and coin expert.
Mark was from May 2015 to May 2020 the co-owner and editor of Picture Postcard Monthly – a magazine dedicated to old postcards which had subscribers in 24 countries outside of the UK. The magazine had been going for 40 years, but Mark and his wife Sally pulled the plug when Covid-19 led to the cancellation of all fairs, and the loss of the most of the 56-page a month magazine’s advertising.
A member of the Postcard Traders Association, he has been a dealer at specialist postcard fairs around the country for 15 years and is an avid collector of not only Portsmouth postcards but English coinage in the last 1,000 years – with a keen interest in hammered coins, particularly from the Tudor period.
Mark was a newspaper reporter from 1978 to 1994, including the last eight as crime reporter for The News (Portsmouth), the city’s daily paper. He also worked in local government communications for nearly 14 years and has worked in media, communications and engagement work for the NHS in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight since 2007.
Mark quote: “I’m thrilled and really looking forward to working with the Nesbit auction team – whom I know from my visits as a customer to be not only highly professional but also extremely professional. I’m proud to be a Portsmouth lad, have blue blood, and it’s fantastic for me to have this opportunity to work with my local and auction house, and one which enjoys such a good reputation.
“Above all, I can’t wait to see all the coins, banknotes and postcards that come our way and to help lot them in ways that remain attractive to perspective buyers – and give sellers the best chance to maximise their potential.”
